AEC Mammoth Major Mk3 1940s-1950s (Fina Fuel Oils)

What is your favourite lorry of all time?

Classic AEC Mammoth Major Mk3 1940s-1950s (Fina Fuel Oils)

The Mk 3 Mammoth Major was a hugely popular eight-wheeler from the late 1940s through to the 1950s. It was renowned for its powerful air-assisted brakes operating on the front, third and fourth axles. The Mark 3 was normally powered by AEC’s tried and tested 9.6-litre six-cylinder diesel, but after 1949 the larger 11.3-litre engine was sometimes specified, particularly for drawbar use, and at 150bhp made this one of the most powerful eight-wheelers of its day.

What is your favourite car of all time?

Ford Zodiac Mk3 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966

The Zodiac was a six-light saloon and the first 100mph car to be catalogued by Dagenham, its increased performance due to a redesigned, high-compression cylinder head and dual exhaust system. Now a unique model, its major breakthrough was a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. Zodiac estate conversions were offered by Abbott of Farnham.

Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967

What is your favourite car of all time?

Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967

The 3000 MkIII BJ8 arrived in November 1963 and featured a 148bhp version of the familiar 2912cc inline-six. There was a revised interior with full-width wooden dash, tunnel console and better trim. Phase II cars from May 1964 used radius arm, instead of Panhard rod rear suspension. The 3000 Mk 3 was priced new at £1,106 (1964). For many, this was the definitive Big Healey.

Mini Cooper Mk3 1275S 1970

What is your favourite car of all time?

Mini Cooper Mk3 1275S

In line with the ordinary Mini Saloons, the Cooper S received the MkIII bodyshell (with concealed door hinges originally introduced i November 1969) in March 1970. The performance and road-holding were still there and it retained hydrolastic suspension, but in terms of appearance the Mini Cooper S was watered down to such an extent that it now looked little different from any other Mini. The two-tone paintwork, a hallmark of the Cooper and Cooper S, had gone and only the obligatory right-hand petrol tank, ventilated wheels and Cooper S badge on the boot lid gave the game away. When the last Mk3 Cooper S rolled off the Longbridge production line in June 1971 it seemed that the Cooper legend was to retire into the history books but dramatically the Cooper was to be re-launched nearly twenty years later by Rover.

Triumph GT6 Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 1964, 1968, 1970 & 1973

What is your favorite car of all time?

Triumph GT6 Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 1964, 1968, 1970 & 1973

The idea of building a six-cylinder version of the Spitfire came along in 1964. Christened GT 6 and developed with the North American market in mind, the model was launched in 1966. The Mk2 emerged in 1968 and the Mk3 (new body style with cut-off tail) was introduced in late 1970. By this time the GT6 had an all-synchromesh gearbox and a new back axle design with lower-wishbone suspension but these arrived too late as the market had already made up its mind unfavourably about the GT6. Little further effort was devoted to development and production ceased towards the end of 1973.

What is your favourite Ford Capri?

Capri 2.8 Injection Special 1984, 1985, 1986

In October 1984 the Capri range was rationalised to just 2 models, the limited edition Laser and the Injection Special. The Capri 2.8 Injection Special was launched to coincide with the London Motor Show, its main features over and above the standard 2.8i being leather trim, spoked RS wheels, rear seat belts and a limited-slip differential. Minor colour coding was also applied – the grille, the bonnet lip extension and the headlamp bezels now finished in body colour, although the rear spoilers and mirrors remained matt black.
